Stephen Buoro has been named one of the Guardian’s Best New Novelists of 2023. Stephen (pictured) was born in Nigeria in 1993 and previously studied Mathematics before joining the UEA Creative Writing MA in 2018 as the recipient of that year’s Booker Prize Foundation Bursary. He is currently studying for a fully-funded PhD in Creative & Critical Writing at UEA under the supervision of Andrew Cowan and Anshuman Mondal. The Five Sorrowful Mysteries of Andy Africa won second prize in the 2020 Deborah Rogers Foundation Writers Award while still in manuscript, and earlier this year Stephen was selected, along with fellow UEA graduate Jyoti Patel, as one of the Observer’s Ten Best New Novelists.
