‘Wales’ by UEA alumnus Thomas Morris has been shortlisted for the Irish Book Awards, Writing.ie Short Story of the Year Prize. Thomas graduated from the Creative Writing (Prose Fiction) MA in 2013 and is currently the editor at large of the Irish literary journal The Stinging Fly. In 2014 he edited Dubliners 100, a centenary collection of new short stories by Irish writers based on James Joyce’s Dubliners. His debut story collection, We Don’t Know What We’re Doing, published by Faber & Faber in 2015, won the Wales Book of the Year Award, the Rhys Davies Trust Fiction Award, and a Somerset Maugham Award. It was also shortlisted for the Edge Hill Short Story Prize. His stories have been published and anthologised in Zoetrope, Best European Fiction 2018 (Dalkey Archive Press), and The Penguin Book of the Contemporary British Short Story (Allen Lane/ Penguin). In 2023 he was named one of Granta’s Best of Young British Novelists. His new collection, Open Up, was published by Faber & Faber this year.
