‘Bird Bones’ a short story by UEA alumna Stephanie Y. Tam has won the 2024 Haper’s Bazaar Short Story Competition. Stephanie (pictured) graduated from the UEA MFA in Creative Writing in 2020, having previously gained an MSt in World Literatures and an MSc in evidence-based social intervention from the University of Oxford. She has worked for various radio and podcast networks, including Freakonomics Radio, New York Public Radio, and First Look Media. Her writing has been published in The Believer, The Behavioral Scientist, and Slate, among others. In 2022 her essay ‘Radio Silence’ was shortlisted for the Fitzcarraldo Essay Prize. In 2023, her story ‘The Sparrows’ was longlisted for the V.S. Pritchett Short Story Prize.
