Half Portraits Under Water is the debut collection by UEA alumnus Dennis Mugaa and is published this week by Masobe Books in West Africa. Dennis comes from Meru, Kenya, and graduated from the MA in Creative Writing (Prose Fiction) this year as the holder of the Miles Morland Foundation scholarship. He previously studied Business Science at Strathmore University, Kenya. His work has been published in Jalada Africa, Isele Magazine, Lolwe and Washington Square Review. His story ‘Theatre Masks’ won the 2022 Black Warrior Review fiction competition. His story “Nairuko”, originally published in Fantasy Magazine, was selected for The Year’s Best African Speculative Fiction Volume Three.
