Yahya Kemal Beyatlı (1884–1958) is one of the most famous Turkish poets and prose writers. He was educated at Istanbul Vefa College and then in France. Most of his work relies on patterns from classic Turkish poetry due to his attachment to traditional prosody, although he was also influenced by 20th-century French poetry. Beyatlı is particularly known with his poems about Istanbul. In his poem ‘From Another Hill’ he expresses his love for the city by focusing on the beauties of Istanbul. The poem has a well-known tune in classical Turkish music.
