
Chaudhuri, Amit
Amit Chaudhuri was a Professor of Contemporary Literature at UEA. He is the author of numerous works, including eight novels, most recently Sojourn (2022). His non-fiction works include Calcutta: Two Years in the City (2013) and two collections of essays, Clearing Space: Reflections on India, Literature and Culture (2008), and The Origins of Dislike (2019). Among the awards he has won for his fiction are the Commonwealth Writers Prize, a Betty Trask award, the Encore Prize, the Los Angeles Times Book Prize for Fiction, and the Government of India's Sahitya Akademi award. In 2012 he was awarded the inaugural Infosys Prize for Humanities - Literary Studies. He has been a judge for the Man Booker International Prize, the Geoffrey Faber Memorial Prize, and International IMPAC Dublin Literary Award. He writes regularly for the London Review of Books, the Times Literary Supplement, and the New Yorker, and is also a vocalist in the Indian classical tradition.
