

Stephen Kelman was born in Luton in 1976, and worked in a warehouse, as a carer, and in marketing and local government before writing his first novel, Pigeon English. It was shortlisted for the 2011 Man Booker Prize, and for nine other awards including the Guardian First Book Award, the Desmond Elliott Prize, and a Writers Guild Award. It has been translated into 18 languages. He now lives in St Albans, where he is writing his second novel.
