New Writing

Jennifer Knights came to UEA as a writer of poetry and fiction.  She chose the Biography and Creative Non-Fiction MA strand as a challenge to her creativity.  In the past two years she has submitted historical pieces concerning family members who unsuccessfully forged a Will in the 1820’s and her grandfather (a First World War gunsmith).  She has also written memoir - covering the course of a pilgrimage - and a polemic arguing the case for assisted dying. Her dissertation was based on an investigation into the life of a clown, Marcus la Touche, an eccentric entertainer born in 1909. Norwich Museums hold many of Marcus’ artefacts^[1] including his incomplete, unpublished autobiography. During her time at UEA she has been privileged to have a monologue performed at Norwich’s Sewell Barn Theatre and has recently been published in Mslexia magazine.   ^[1] Norfolk and Norwich Museum Ref:  NWHCM: 1987.77 Running to a mere fourteen pages it ends around his seventh birthday.
