Carolyn Forché

A Professor at Georgetown University, Carolyn Forché’s first volume of poetry, Gathering the Tribes, winner of the Yale Series of Younger Poets Prize, was followed by The Country Between Us, The Angel of History, Blue Hour, the anthology Against Forgetting and in 2020, In the Lateness of the World. Her memoir What You Have Heard Is True, was a finalist for the National Book Award and winner of the Juan E. Mendez Book Award for Human Rights in Latin America.

She has translated Mahmoud Darwish, Claribel Alegria, and Robert Desnos.

In 1998, she received the Edita and Ira Morris Hiroshima Foundation for Peace and Culture Award for her human rights advocacy. She is the founder of Writers for Democratic Action, an international organisation dedicated to the defense of democracy and civil society.
