UEA alumnus Andrew Miller was this evening announced as the winner of the Costa Book Award for 2012. The prize, worth £30,000, was awarded for his sixth novel, ‘Pure’, which is published by Sceptre. It was previously announced as the winner of the Novel category. Andrew (pictured) graduated from the Prose Fiction MA in 1990 and published his first novel, ‘Ingenious
Pain’, in 1997. This won the James Tait Black Memorial Prize for Fiction, the Italian Grinzane Cavour Prize and the International IMPAC Dublin Literary Award. His third novel, ‘Oxygen’, was shortlisted for the Whitbread Novel Award and the Booker Prize in 2001. Another UEA graduate, Christie Watson (2008), won the £5,000 Costa First Novel Award, while Martyn Bedford (1994)
was shortlisted for the Children’s Book of the Year Award.
