‘Willow Trees Don’t Weep’ is the fourth novel by UEA alumna Fadia Faqir and has recently been published by Heron Books. Fadia was born in Amman, Jordan, and moved to Britain in 1984. She was awarded the UK’s first PhD in Creative and Critical Writing by UEA in 1989 and published her first novel, ‘Nisanit’, in 1990. This was followed by ‘Pillars of Salt’ in 1996 and ‘My Name is Salma’ in 2007. She is also the editor of a book of autobiographical essays by Arab women writers, ‘In the House of Silence’, published in 1998. Her work has been published in nineteen countries and translated into fifteen languages. She is currently a writing fellow at St Aidan’s College, Durham University, where she teaches creative writing.
