Perfidious Albion by UEA alumnus Sam Byers has been shortlisted for this year’s Encore Award for outstanding second novels, which is administered by the Royal Society for Literature. Sam graduated from the MA in Creative Writing (Prose Fiction) in 2003 and completed his PhD in Creative & Critical Writing in 2014. His first novel Idiopathy was published by 4th Estate in 2013 and won a Betty Trask Award. It was also shortlisted for the Costa First Novel Award and longlisted for the Desmond Elliott Award. Perfidious Albion was published by Faber & Faber earlier this year and was longlisted for the Royal Society of Literature (RSL) Ondaatje Prize. It is currently also longlisted for the inaugural Orwell Prize for Political Fiction. The winner of the Encore Award will be announced on 13 June.
