Djinn Patrol On The Purple Line is the debut novel by UEA writer Deepa Anappara and is published by Chatto & Windus this week. Deepa graduated from the MA in Creative Writing (Prose Fiction) in 2017 and is currently studying at UEA for her PhD in Creative and Critical Writing. She grew up in Kerala, southern India, and previously worked as a journalist in cities including Mumbai and Delhi. Her reports on the impact of poverty and religious violence on the education of children won the Developing Asia Journalism Awards, the Every Human Has Rights Media Awards, and the Sanskriti-Prabha Dutt Fellowship in Journalism. While still in manuscript Djinn Patrol On The Purple Line won the Lucy Cavendish Fiction Prize, the Deborah Rogers Foundation Writers Award, and the Bridport/Peggy Chapman-Andrews Award. It is a BBC Radio 2 book club pick.
