UEA alumnus Krishan Coupland has been awarded a Scottish Book Trust New Writers Award, which is intended to provide financial support for authors who have not yet published a full-length book or collection. He will receive £2,000 and a programme of professional mentoring and training opportunities. Krishan (pictured) graduated from the MA in Creative Writing (Prose Fiction) in 2014 and is currently completing his PhD in Creative and Critical Writing, also at UEA. In 2017 he published a chapbook of stories, When You Lived Inside The Walls, with Stonewood Press. He was the winner of the Manchester Fiction Prize in 2011 and the Bare Fiction Prize in 2016, and has been shortlisted for the Bristol Short Story Prize, the Wasafiri New Writing Prize, the Storgy short story competition, the Tibor Jones Pageturner Prize, and the Short Fiction Prize. He is the editor of the online literary magazine Neon.
