‘Touch’, an essay by UEA alumna Poppy Sebag-Montefiore, has won a Pushcart Prize and been included the anthology Pushcart Prize XLV: Best of the Small Presses 2021. The essay was originally published in Granta 146: The Politics of Feeling. Poppy graduated from the MA in Creative Writing (Prose Fiction) in 2014. She has worked as a broadcast journalist in the BBC’s Beijing Bureau and reported from China for Channel 4 News. She has also worked as an investigative film-maker for Newsnight. She teaches modern Chinese fiction at King’s College London and is currently at work on a novel. Also included in the current Pushcart anthology is ‘In The Event’ by UEA’s 2016-17 David T.K. Wong Writing Fellow, Meng Jin.
