The Love Makers is the new novel by UEA alumna Aifric Campbell and is published by Goldsmiths Press this week. The novel is accompanied by a collection of essays from leading scientists and commentators on what’s at stake in human–machine relationships. Aifric graduated from the MA in Creative Writing (Prose Fiction) in 2003 and from the PhD in Creative and Critical Writing in 2007, prior to which she spent fourteen years as an investment banker at Morgan Stanley where she became the first woman managing director on the London trading floor. Her first novel The Semantics of Murder was published in 2008 and shortlisted for the Glen Dimplex Award for New Writers. The Loss Adjustor followed in 2010, and On the Floor, which was longlisted for the International Orange Prize, in 2012. Her journalism has appeared in the Wall Street Journal, the Irish Times, the Sunday Telegraph, the Guardian, Elle, and the Sunday Business Post. She teaches at Imperial College London.
