Pop! by UEA alumnus Mitch Johnson has won the Juniper Book of the Year Award, which is designed to improve literacy and encourage reading for pleasure among pupils at Key Stages 2 and 3, and which invites pupils to write reviews of the six shortlisted titles. Mitch graduated from the BA in English Literature with Creative Writing at UEA in 2014 and currently works as a bookseller in Waterstones, Norwich. His debut novel, Kick, was published in 2017 and endorsed by Amnesty International UK for its portrayal of children’s rights. It has been translated into numerous languages and was the winner of the 2018 Branford Boase Award. This was followed in 2021 by Pop! and by his third novel Spark earlier this year.
