Two alumnae of the UEA MA in Creative Writing (Crime Fiction) have been longlisted for the Crime Writers’ Association Debut Dagger competition. Laura Ashton Hill, who graduated in 2019, is nominated for Holloway Castle while Katherine Futers (pictured), who graduated in 2021, is nominated for Lufkin, Texas. The Debut Dagger is a competition for the opening of a crime novel by a writer who isn’t represented by an agent and hasn’t previously published a novel. Writers submit their opening 3,000 words and a 1,500 word synopsis. The shortlist for the Debut Dagger will be announced on 13 May and the winner on 29 June.
