Current UEA student Jen Calleja has been shortlisted for the 2022 Oxford-Weidenfeld Prize for her German-to-English translation of The Liquid Land by Raphaela Edelbauer, which was published by Scribe last year. The prize recognises book-length literary translations. Jen is currently studying for a PhD in Creative & Critical Writing at UEA. Her debut collection of poetry, Serious Justice, was published by Test Centre in 2016, followed by the pamphlet Hamburger in the Archive, which was published by If A Leaf Falls Press in 2019. I’m Afraid That’s All We’ve Got Time For, her debut collection of short stories, was published by Prototype in 2020. As a translator from German, she has translated over sixteen novels and was the inaugural Translator in Residence at the British Library. She was the translator of The Pine Islands by Marion Poschmann, which was longlisted for this year’s Dublin Literary Award Novels in Translation Prize and shortlisted for the International Booker Prize in 2019. Jen is also the co-founder, with Kat Storace, of Praspar Press. The winner of the Oxford-Weidenfeld Prize will be announced on 11 June.
