UEA alumnus Max Lury and current student Ned Carter Miles have recently been nominated for fiction awards. Max’s ‘Riding Lessons’ has been longlisted for the Brick Lane Bookshop Short Story Prize, which is worth £1,000 to the winner. All the nominated stories will be published in the Brick Lane Bookshop anthology in the autumn. Ned’s novel-in-progress For Sugar has been shortlisted for the First Pages Prize, while his story ‘–K’ has been selected as an ‘Editor’s Choice’ in the Raymond Carver Short Story Contest and will be published in the Fall 2022 issue of Carve Magazine. Max (pictured) graduated from the UEA MA in Creative Writing (Prose Fiction) last year, having previously completed a BA in Philosophy at Edinburgh University. Ned is currently completing the MA in Creative Writing (Prose Fiction) having recently worked as a freelance radio producer for BBC Radio 4, Audible, and the Guardian.
