Against Creative Writing is a new work of non-fiction by UEA Professor of Creative Andrew Cowan. An overview of the discipline of Creative Writing, historically and internationally, the book has just been published by Routledge. Andrew graduated from the UEA Creative Writing MA in 1985 and is the author of six novels. Pig won five literary awards including the Sunday Times Young Writer of the Year Award and was shortlisted for five other awards. Common Ground and Crustaceans both received competitive Arts Council bursaries. What I Know was a recipient of an Arts Council Writers’ Award and was published in 2005. Worthless Men was published in 2013 and shortlisted for the East Anglian Book Award. His most recent novel Your Fault was published by Salt in 2019. He is also the author of a guidebook, The Art of Writing Fiction, published in 2011 and scheduled for re-publication in a revised edition in 2023.
