Trinidadian novelist and current UEA research student Ayanna Lloyd Banwo has been announced as one of the two winners of the Eccles Centre & Hay Festival Writer’s Award, along with Jarred McGinnis. Both are awarded £20,000 and up to a year’s residency with the British Library to develop their forthcoming books, plus the opportunity to showcase their work at future Hay Festival events in the UK and Latin America. Ayanna (pictured) graduated from the UEA MA in Creative Writing (Prose Fiction) in 2018 and is currently completing her PhD is Creative & Critical Writing. Her debut novel When We Were Birds was published by Hamish Hamilton earlier this year. Fellow alumnus Malachi McIntosh, who graduated from the MA in 2015, was shortlisted for the award.
