Dust Sucker is a new book-length poem by current UEA student Jen Calleja and is published by Makina Books this week in a bilingual edition with a German translation by Austrian poet Carolina Schutti. Jen is currently studying for a PhD in Creative & Critical Writing at UEA. Her debut collection of poetry, Serious Justice, was published by Test Centre in 2016, followed by the pamphlet Hamburger in the Archive, which was published by If A Leaf Falls Press in 2019. I’m Afraid That’s All We’ve Got Time For, her debut collection of short stories, was published by Prototype in 2020. As a translator from German, she has translated over sixteen novels and was the inaugural Translator in Residence at the British Library. She was the translator of The Pine Islands by Marion Poschmann, which was longlisted for the Dublin Literary Award Novels in Translation Prize and shortlisted for the International Booker Prize in 2019. Her German-to-English translation of The Liquid Land by Raphaela Edelbauer was published by Scribe and shortlisted for the 2022 Oxford-Weidenfeld Prize. Jen is also the co-founder, with Kat Storace, of Praspar Press. Vehicle: A Verse Novel will be published by Prototype next month.
