UEA alumna Priscilla Morris and current student Ayanna Lloyd Banwo have been shortlisted for the 2023 Authors’ Club Best First Novel Award, which is open to any début novel written in English and published in the UK. Priscilla (pictured) graduated from the MA in Creative Writing (Prose Fiction) in 2009 and from the PhD in Creative & Critical Writing in 2013, is nominated for Black Butterflies (Duckworth). Ayanna graduated from the Prose Fiction MA in 2018 and is currently completing her PhD in Creative & Critical Writing. She is longlisted for When We Were Birds (Hamish Hamilton). Two other UEA alumnae were longlisted for the award: Sussie Anie, who graduated from the Prose Fiction MA in 2019, and Emma Styles, who graduated from the MA in Creative Writing (Crime Fiction) in 2020. The winner of the award with will be announced on 24 May.
