UEA alumna Priscilla Morris has been longlisted for the £10,000 Royal Society of Literature (RSL) Ondaatje Prize for her first novel Black Butterflies, which was published by Duckworth in 2022. Priscilla (pictured) grew up in London and read Spanish, Italian and Social Anthropology at Cambridge University. After teaching English in Barcelona and Rio de Janeiro, she joined the MA in Creative Writing (Prose Fiction) at UEA, graduating in 2009, before completing the PhD in Creative & Critical Writing in 2013. She now lectures in Creative Writing at University College, Dublin and lives between Ireland and Catalonia. Black Butterflies is also currently shortlisted for the Authors Club Best First Novel Award and was previously longlisted for the Women’s Prize for Fiction. The Ondaatje Prize shortlist will be announced on 24 April and the winner on 10 May. The 2021 winner was UEA alumna Ruth Gilligan.
