The Genesis of Misery, the debut novel by UEA graduate Neon Yang, has been shortlisted for Locus magazine’s 2023 Locus Award for Best First Novel. Neon (pictured) graduated from the MA in Creative Writing (Prose Fiction) in 2016 and is the author of the Tensorate series of novellas, all published by Tor: The Red Threads of Fortune, The Black Tides of Heaven, The Descent of Monsters and The Ascent to Godhood. Their work has been shortlisted for the Hugo, Nebula, World Fantasy, Lambda Literary, Locus Science Fiction Foundation and British Fantasy Awards. A journalist and former scientist from Singapore, Neon’s short fiction has also been published in a range of print and online journals and anthologies, including Lightspeead, Uncanny, Clarkesworld and Strange Horizons.
