Novels by three UEA alumnae have been longlisted for the Wilbur & Niso Smith Foundation Best Published Novel Award. Priscilla Morris (pictured), who graduated from the MA in Creative Writing (Prose Fiction) in 2009 and the PhD in Creative & Critical Writing in 2013, is nominated for Black Butterflies (Duckworth); Natasha Pulley, who graduated from the Prose Fiction MA in 2012, is nominated for The Half Life of Valery K (Raven Books); and Emma Styles, who graduated from the MA in Crime Fiction in 2020, is nominated for No Country for Girls (Sphere). The shortlist for the award will be announced on 1 June and the winner, who will receive £10,000, on 18 October. Priscilla’s debut is currently also shortlisted for the Women’s Prize for Fiction and the Authors Club Best First Novel Award. It was previously shortlisted for the Royal Society of Literature / Ondaatje Prize. Emma’s novel is currently also shortlisted for the Crime Writers’ Association / International Literary Properties John Creasey (New Blood) Dagger Award and previously longlisted for the Authors’ Club Best First Novel Award.
