The Colony of Shadows by UEA alumnus Bikram Sharma has been longlisted for the JCB Prize for Literature, which aims to celebrate Indian writing and helps readers across the world discover contemporary Indian Literature. The shortlisted authors will all receive Rs 1 lakh, and if a translation the translator will receive Rs 50,000. The winning author will receive a further Rs 25 lakh, and if the winning work is a translation, the translator will receive Rs 10 lakh. Bikram Sharma is from Bangalore. He completed an MA in Creative Writing in 2015, and in 2016 he was awarded the Charles Wallace India Trust writing fellowship at the University of Kent. In 2017 he won the DNA-Out of Print Short Fiction Prize. The Colony of Shadows is his debut novel. The JCB Prize for Literature shortlist will be announced on 20 October and the winner will be announced on 18 November.
