Nicolas Padamsee
Nicolas Padamsee is undertaking a Creative & Critical Writing PhD at UEA with a CHASE studentship. He is investigating how a novelist might make a valuable contribution to the study of extremism today, which harks back to a golden past but is thriving on social media. The creative element of his project is a novel provisionally titled England is Mine. It follows a second-generation immigrant who turns to the far-right and ends up committing a terrorist attack at a mosque. It explores the process of radicalisation, whether there is something unique about the desire for self-representation online among second-generation immigrants, and whether extremism is encoded in the architecture of social media.
