welcome to egg box publishing ltd's online home. we are currently building a new website that will be better able to meet our needs and aspirations - things will be changing a lot during 2007/08. this will still be where we talk about egg box books, but we are hoping that this site will now be able to grow into the comprehensive arts community we've wanted, with forums, handy resources, new writing, reviews and featured new writers and artists. it will still all be for free, just much better. have a browse through the pages here in the meantime, buy some books, and let us know if you have any suggestions or if you would like to be featured or get involved. it is for you lot, after all...
ben borek has been chosen as one of london wordfest's top ten literary stars for 2008. and it's only february! the list was compiled by one tom chivers - a good egg whose considerable critical acumen could only be rivalled, perhaps, by one toby litt - and it can be found in full here.
the third print run of donjong heights by ben borek is finally here! sorry about the delay to all those who have been waiting patiently (your copies are on their way) - demand has been much higher than we could have predicted. this was mainly due to the fact that toby litt chose the book as one of his christmas fiction picks for 2007 (alongside don delillo and a. l. kennedy) on radio4's 'open book'. see here for the list in full and to listen to the broadcast.
donjong heights has been given a rave review in time out london. toby litt says: "equipped with the kind of verbal chutzpah that paul muldoon half-inched from auden, and auden nabbed from byron, ben borek has a contemporary flow all his own. at one point he protests 'i know that i'm no martin amis', but there's something of 'london fields' in borek's mix of the demotic and hieratic. this is a truly fantastic, and wholly unexpected, london book." in this way, litt clearly reveals himself to be a man possessed of extremely good taste and considerable powers of discernment.
more good news for the egg box: we have secured an arts council grant to help develop the company, which means, amongst other things, that we'll be publishing more books in the near future! so thanks very much to the arts council for their generous support.
on another note, sales for the wake anthology have been great, and we are delighted to be able to donate the money from the first 400 copies to habitat for humanity. 2000 GBP is enough to build two habitat for humanity homes in malawi. for more information about what the money will do see here. thanks to everyone who bought a copy. |
